Print media - 7" x 10.5" Comic Book
Nickel Plate Arts, a multi-community collective of artists, thinkers, and dreamers commissions a yearly comic book for their Comic Book in a Day event. Calling artists of all ages, religion, and nationality, Comic Book in a Day inspires the community to create their own comic book.
All images are scanned, cropped, color corrected, and formatted for a standard print publication, sent off to Ka-Blam Digital Printing.
Post-Mortem
As one in a long line of designers for the project, my objectives were to continue a high standard of quality with the project and keeping it on time for printing, so that it could be sold during specific events through out the year. Utilizing an external printing company, it was a simple affair to acquire the proper printing specifications, and by keeping in contact with the company I was able to ensure that all final products would end up print-ready with as few flaws as possible.
Part of my responsibility was also to ensure that a clear line of communication was established and maintained between myself and the client. As agreed, I designed new graphics for the project. Researching commercial comic books, I acquired free for print fonts via Blambot, a font foundry that specializes in comic book font. The graphics were inspired by a trip to the local comic book store, studying what type of paneling, sound panels, and other comic book flairs were being used that could then be used to add more depth and meaning to the project.
Overall, the CBIAD project is one that stresses timelines, communication, and strict adherence to various policies from various companies.
